Big Boy

Kurt Alexander is a nationally syndicated American radio host and actor. Beginning in 1997, he served as host of the Los Angeles Rhythmic morning show at contemporary station, KPWR (Power 106) until his move to KRRL (Real 92.3) in February of 2015. His stage name derives from his formerly large build, which he modified through high-risk duodenal switch surgery in 2003 losing over 250 pounds.

Big Boy appears in The Proud Family as host of Hip-Hop Helicopter. He ended up being the one to announce that LPDZ were the winners of the Hip-Hop Helicopter dance contest which propelled them to celebrity status collective and kick-started their career as a singing group. In Surf and Turf, he hosted a game of "Kiss or Diss" where Dijonay Jones was publicly humiliated after Sticky Webb dissed her not only in front of the Willy T. Ribbs Middle School student body, but also on live radio. He and his partner Big Fuzz later hosted the "Beach Blanket Games" (sponsored by Wizard Kelly) in the same episode. He is later heard on the radio twice in The Proud Family Movie.

KPWR (105.9 FM) – branded as Power 106 – is a commercial radio station in Los Angeles, California, broadcasting to the Greater Los Angeles area. KPWR is owned and operated by Alex Meruelo's Meruelo Group, through licensee KPWR Radio Holdings LLC, and airs a rhythmic hot AC format. KPWR's studios are based in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank, and the transmitter is on Mount Wilson. Meruelo acquired KPWR from Emmis Communications for $82.75 million in May 2017, officially bringing the station under common ownership with KDAY, KDEY-FM and KBEH on August 1, 2017.

History

Early years (1955–1986)

From 1946 until its deletion in 1951, 105.9 MHz in Los Angeles was occupied by KFI-FM. In 1955, Planned Music, Inc. applied for a construction permit for a new station on the vacated frequency, which was assigned the call letters KBMS (Better Music Station), before adopting the KWST call sign and "K-West 106" moniker in 1969. During its years as KBMS and KWST, its format had been beautiful music prior to its flip to a progressive rock format on January 1, 1975. K-West emulated the then-popular sound of KMET and KLOS.
