Karina Hollekim has jumped off some of the highest buildings and skied down some of the steepest mountains in the world, becoming the first woman to complete a ski BASE jump. She has flown off mountains in the most thrilling and spectacular scenes.
“Like every kid’s dream, I also dreamt about being able to fly! I looked at the birds as the most untouchable creatures in the nature. How they could just let go into the air, play with the winds and then just fly away. Instead of letting this dream pass like most unreachable plans, I made this dream my life. Today I can jump off Buildings, Antennas, Spans and Earth with my parachute and also fly with my wing suit – just like the bird!”
Professional Free-skier and B.A.S.E. jumper, Karina Hollekim was born in 1976. She got her first contract as a freeskier in 1992. She made her career travelling the world doing the two sports she loves the most; freeskiing and BASE jumping. She is still the only woman who ever completed a ski B.A.S.E. She is Norway’s only professional B.A.S.E. jumper and an exponent of B.A.S.E. jump aerials, including the misty flip.
On August 20, 2006, Karina Hollekim jumped from a plane in a routine demonstration skydive. Her parachute failed and she hit the ground at over 100 km/h

Base-jumper Karina Hollekim tells of surviving fall
Ms Hollekim, who was told by doctors she would never walk again, told BBC Scotland how she can now walk and ski again.
The accident happened on 20 August 2006.
She said: "When I jumped out of the plane everything was perfect but when I tried to open my chute to land on the grass in the field in front of the spectators it had a malfunction.
"It pulled to one side so it started spinning uncontrollably.
"I hit the ground at more than 100km/h and hit a huge boulder.
"It crushed both my legs from my hips down.
"When I was falling I was thinking I was going to die.
"It was my dream to come back to the mountains and that's what kept me going each day of my recovery."
In the years before her accident Ms Hollekim jumped off some of the highest buildings and skied down some of the steepest mountains in the world, becoming the first woman to complete a ski base jump.
Her biographical film, 20 Seconds of Joy, won the Best Film on Mountain Sports and People's Choice awards at the 2007 Banff Mountain Film Festival.
In 2009/10 she made it back onto skis for the first time since her accident.
